AI is about to change more than the tools inside the SOC. It will change how access is governed, how quickly teams must respond, where security data lives, who gets hired and what organizations expect from their security partners.

Join Chad Cragle, CISO at Deepwatch, as he shares six direct predictions for security operations in 2027—and what security leaders should begin preparing for now.

**Six predictions shaping security operations in 2027**

To close out Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Chad will examine six shifts that could materially change how organizations build, operate and govern their security programs

AI will not replace MDR—it will make MDR indispensable

AI will accelerate defenders and attackers alike. Organizations will still need experienced security operators who can interpret its output, control its actions and intervene when it gets something wrong.

No AI audit trail, no enterprise sale

AI governance will become a buying requirement. Enterprises will expect vendors to prove what their AI accessed, decided and executed—and where human oversight occurred.

Security hiring will rebound—but yesterday’s SOC jobs will not

Demand will grow for AI security engineers, threat hunters, detection engineers, identity specialists and incident commanders. Roles centered on repetitive alert processing will continue to shrink.

Security data is coming home

More enterprises will insist that their telemetry remain in customer-controlled data lakes, cloud environments or private infrastructure. Security providers will need to bring their intelligence to the customer’s data.

Every AI agent will need a badge

AI agents will become first-class identities with their own credentials, permissions, owners and audit histories. Allowing an agent to operate through a shared human account will become an unacceptable security practice.

Patch Tuesday will become Patch Now

AI is rapidly shortening the time between vulnerability discovery and exploitation. When attackers can move in hours, monthly patching cycles will no longer provide enough protection.
